Research Scientist – Magnetic Materials

Key Responsibilities

Plan and execute assigned R&D projects to develop new materials, processes and products with minimal supervision. Typical projects include but not limit to following activities:

  • Synthesize magnetic materials from raw materials according to the design formulations and characterize them according to the required specifications.
  • Synthesize NdFeB/polymer compounds and bonded magnets according to the design formulations and characterize them according to the required specifications.
  • Modify NdFeB powder and bonded magnet surfaces by physical or chemical approaches to enhance its corrosion and oxidation resistance.
  • Perform product validation, testing and failure analysis services for customers and manufacturing plants.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams involving engineering and R&D at manufacturing locations and regional sales managers.
  • Demonstrate competence in the use of all relevant test, analytical and processing equipment.
  • Provide technical supervision to associate scientists.
  • Document all phases of assigned projects; write complete reports.
  • Assist in preparing patent applications/publications/meeting presentations/knowledge notes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe workplace.
  • Conduct other work as required in Materials and Magnetics Laboratories.

Requirements: 

  • Ph.D. degree (preferred) or master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Physics, preferably with a focus on permanent magnetic materials..
  • 0-5 years of post-graduate research experience, preferably in permanent magnetic materials related fields.
  • Knowledge of permanent magnetic materials and their processing-microstructure-property relationship.
  • Hands-on experimental skills in permanent magnetic materials synthesis and characterization.
  • Ability to analyze and work through technical and/or scientific problems.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly motivated, team player.

Senior Motor Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, passionate Electric Motor Design expert for the position of Senior Engineer (Motor Technology), who has both the desire and capability to solve the challenges faced by Tier-1 Automotive component/assembly suppliers and home appliance manufacturers, driving the growth of the Magnequench’s magnet business in various applications.

  • Initiate and enhance interaction with existing/potential customers’ technical teams
  • Design an application specific cost optimized permanent magnet brushed and brushless motors, actuators, sensors as well as magnetizing fixtures using design tools like 2D/3D finite element analysis and electromagnetic analytical design software’s
  • Development and testing of control algorithms for the PM BLDC motors to achieve improved system performance.
  • Participate in a team comprising electromagnetic and mechanical experts to identify the motor/system performance and improvement potential
  • Establish a testing methodology and the corresponding test set-ups for the performance measurement of permanent brushed and brushless motors and electromagnetic devices
  • Evaluate the feasibility of various magnetic materials in an application.
  • Lead and manage the projects and ensure in-time delivery.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical publications/presentations/technical marketing documents for conferences/seminars, journals and/or company website.

Requirements: 

  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Strong fundamentals of PMBL DC motors and drive systems analysis, modeling, and control
  • Sound knowledge of electromagnetic principles and electromagnetic finite element analysis (FEA) concepts.
  • In-depth understanding of various torque and speed control techniques for permanent magnet brushless motor
  • Experience with various PWM schemes such as space vector, discontinuous, and sinusoidal modulation, including data-acquisition methods
  • Fluent in the use of the commercially available analytical and FEA software for electromagnetic analysis.
  • Proficient user of the motor design tools like SPEED and Motor-CAD
  • Attentive to customer’s needs, proactive and persuasive
  • Good communication skills, project management acumen, people and resource management expertise and cross-functional synergy
  • A team player able to work and contribute to the highly motivated and high performing team.
  • Willing to travel (More than 20% of the time)

Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) Engineer – Simulation

How will you contribute?

Lead the activity related to evaluating various automotive electromechanical systems and identify the source for noise and vibration and countermeasures to minimize/eliminate it.

Key Responsibilities

      • Perform vibroacoustic Multiphysics simulation on electric motor and electromechanical systems for
        – Benchmarking the vibration and noise (both structure borne and airborne noise)
        – Identify the design improvements for vibration reduction and work with motor team to implement and demonstrate the improvements to the customers.
        – Identify the design improvement for the electric motor or an electromechanical system for sound mitigation and work with motor team to implement and demonstrate the improvements to the customers.
      • Initiate and enhance interaction with existing/potential customers’ technical teams
      • Work closely with motor design and mechanical team and actively participate in the development of cost optimal electromechanical systems.
      • Contribute to the preparation of technical publications/presentations/technical marketing documents for conferences/seminars, journals and/or company website
      • Perform other duties as assigned

 For This Role You Will Need

      • Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years of experience on Noise and vibration analysis of electrical motor and/or electromechanical systems.
      • Strong understanding of noise and vibration issues related to electromagnetic interactions in electric motors
      • Fluent in the use of the 3-D modeling and commercially available vibroacoustic FEA software
      • Experience using various techniques for the analysis of noise and vibration in electric motor and/or electromechanical systems.
      • Attentive to customer’s needs, proactive and persuasive
      • Good communication skills, project management acumen, people and resource management expertise and cross-functional synergy
      • A team player able to work and contribute to the highly motivated and high performing team.
      • Willing to travel (More than 15% of the time)
      • Fluency in German and/or Mandarin/Cantonese will be a plus
      • Experience in NVH measurement and analysis will be a plus.

Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) Engineer – Testing

How will you contribute?

Lead the activity related to evaluating various automotive electromechanical systems and identify the source for noise and vibration and countermeasures to minimize/eliminate it.

Key Responsibilities

      • Establish a test facility for the vibration and noise measurement of an electromechanical system.
      • Measure and characterize the electric motors, pumps, fans, and other electromechanical systems for the following
        – Component and system level vibration
        – Structure borne and airborne noise
        – Determine sources of vibration and noise and suggest potential counter measure
      • Initiate and enhance interaction with existing/potential customers’ technical teams
      • Work closely with motor design and mechanical team and actively participate in the development of cost optimal electromechanical systems.
      • Contribute to the preparation of technical publications/presentations/technical marketing documents for conferences/seminars, journals and/or company website
      • Perform other duties as assigned

 For This Role You Will Need

      • Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years of experience on NVH.
